Training Levels
Bronze Level:
Primarily for 8 &
under athletes, but is inclusive of all age groups as well. Athletes at this level train for
3-5 hours per week, with training sessions of 1,500-2,500 yards in length. Focuses primarily
on proper body position, proficiency in all 4 competitive strokes, starts and turns, lane etiquette, and FUN!!!
Silver Level: Silver level athletes typically have attained a B, BB, or A level
time in a competitive event. Athletes in this group train 6-8 hours per week, with training sessions of 2,500-4,000 yards in
length. Some dry land training is incorporated in the training sessions as well. Skills that are addressed at this level
include proper body position, stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and race preparation.
Gold Level:
Gold level athletes
typically have attained AA level times or faster in a competitive event. Graduation into this level is by
coach's invitation only. Athletes at this level train for 10-24 hours per week, with training sessions of
5,000 or more yards. Dry land training is a major component of training at this level. Skills that are
addressed at this level include stroke efficiency, race strategy, race training, and nutrition.

Takoma - Bronze and Silver: Mon-Fri 6-8pm
Deanwood - Silver and Gold: Mon-Fri 6-8pm
Rumsey - Bronze: Mon, Wed, Fri 5-7pm
**Training groups and levels are determined by the coaching staff.
Any changes to a swimmers level or group assignment must first be
discussed and authorized by a swim team coach. Coaches may invite
swimmers into a particular training level or group at their discretion.
Parents do not determine what level or group a swimmer is assigned to. **
